Ravens are collectors of trinkets, and their intelligence is remarkable. I feel that they collect so much more. Collectors of secrets and stories that they share. Their calls share stories that only the wind and stars understand though.

I can never look at Ravens without pausing to hear their call. Try to sense if they are calling out to other Ravens trying to tell a story, or sometimes just mocking the people they see going about their daily life routines.

I grew up on the West Coast of British Columbia and loved all of the indigenous stories of Raven. A figure that walks the line between chaos and wisdom.

​

They can be a great deal of fun to photograph and their contrasting dark colour makes for a stunning portrait. The call that many do not appreciate seemed almost to be giving me permission to keep photographing and I can only imagine the stories he was trying to tell.
