FLEETING FOX
The fox-coyote relationship is a classic example where mid-sized carnivores like coyotes have an outsized influence on smaller carnivores like foxes, but are themselves influenced by larger predators like wolves.
‘There is always a bigger fish’, could be an expression that fits, even in the Rocky Mountain environment.
The best wildlife opportunities come about when you are just sitting in one spot some days. No hope for anything, just listening to the birds and looking out over the landscape for movement. This fleeting fox came right along in front of me without a care. It had its breakfast served up and was on the way to enjoy a meal in peace. Like how we grab food to go on a busy morning. This was the impression I got anyhow.
Foxes will always interest me, and I am a dog person through and through that will never stop remembering the Fox and the Hound story every time I see one. Their colours and light steps throughout the forest will always appear playful in my eyes.
